Zena is a barrister practicing in complex commercial litigation, with particular focus on competition litigation and international dispute resolution. She represents clients before the UK and EU courts, national authorities, including the CMA, and arbitral tribunals.
She has experience in public and private antitrust enforcement in the EU and the UK as well as regulatory and internal investigations, including co-ordinating multi-jurisdictional proceedings. She advises on state aid, public procurement, international trade and ESG issues and related national and cross-border litigation.
Her international dispute resolution practice encompasses complex EU litigation, including banking, restructuring, privacy and sanctions disputes as well as international commercial and investment arbitration. In this context, she also addresses questions of public and private international law. Zena accepts instructions to act as an arbitrator and is featured in the rosters held by various international institutions, including the Swiss Arbitration Association, the Vienna International Arbitration Centre, LCIA and the Dubai International Financial Centre.
Prior to joining Milberg London, Zena was Counsel at a leading international firm and before that an associate at a well-known US firm. Her representations have spanned a range of industries, including aviation, technology, telecom, pharma, energy, financial services and consumer goods. She was core part of the team that won Global Competition Review’s 2018 award for the merger control matter of the year in Europe.
From 2022 to 2023, Zena was a lecturer at the University of Groningen, teaching EU substantive law, public international law and competition law both at undergrad and post-graduate levels. Her monograph on “The Public order exception in international trade, investment, human rights and commercial disputes” has been published by Kluwer International.
