James began his career training at a leading US firm in London and Moscow. James acted in high-profile commercial litigation, particularly on complex international matters for Russian and Middle Eastern clients and gained experience in the firm’s corporate restructuring team. He acted on Singularis Holdings Ltd v Daiwa Capital Markets, a landmark banking claim that reached the Supreme Court in 2019.
Upon qualification, James moved to the Finance and Banking disputes team in Mishcon de Reya’s leading litigation practice. James worked on a broad range of complex, high value commercial disputes, including two cases that featured in the top 20 cases of 2016 in leading industry magazine ‘The Lawyer’. These were Terra Firma’s £2 billion claim against Citigroup over the purchase of EMI, and the judicial review by Holmcroft Properties Ltd against KPMG LLP in respect of the high profile FCA review into interest rate hedging products. At Mishcon, James worked closely with Milberg co-founders Polly Blenkin, James Oldnall and Edward Cardington, where they built a practice focused on claimant-orientated disputes.
James then spent 18 months at leading silver circle firm advising on one of the largest commercial fraud claims in England set for trial in 2022. He joined Milberg London in January 2021. James’ other noted work includes acting for Richard Lloyd in his ground-breaking data breach representative group action against Google, heard in the Supreme Court in 2021. James is therefore well experienced in advising on the large, multijurisdictional claims that Milberg London pursues on behalf of its clients.
James continues to specialise in large international fraud claims in Milberg’s Commercial Litigation practice, and acts against large institutional defendants as part of the team at Milberg London acting for tens of thousands of motorists in various emissions claims.
